London Festival of Architecture 2023 Opening Party
Finding what we have in common allows us to create something extraordinary: to foster connections and innovation by bringing together different perspectives to reclaim our city for public good. To celebrate the start of a month long celebration of architecture and city-making we partnered up with our kind sponsors General projects and KKR to host London Festival of Architecture 2023 Opening party, which took place on Wednesday 31st May at The Manufactory.
The venue at the Heal’s building has become an icon for its unique features and ever evolving architecture that was always reflective of changing tastes and trends through generations. The site has been the flagship store and atelier of the legendary designer furniture retailer for over 200 years, although the building that now stands at 196 Tottenham Court Road wasn’t built until 1916.
General Projects in partnership with investors KKR and architects Buckley Gray Yeoman, will retain Heal’s flagship store within the Grade II* listed building. With the upper floors and former mattress factory being restored and re-imagined into design-led office space for The Manufactory, and a new public-facing cafe and gallery opening later this year - located in the store’s former loading bay in Alfred Mews, which will be made publicly accessible for the first time in two centuries.
